Oral cancer is one of the deadliest forms of the disease. It will cause over 8,000 deaths out of the more-than 34,000 Americans who will be diagnosed with some form of oral cancer this year. That’s approximately one death every hour of every day. This mortality rate is higher than that of cervical cancer, Hodgkin’s disease and cancer of the liver, brain and kidney.
Doctors are prescribing more medication than ever before. It's estimated that in any given week, nearly one-third of all adults, many of them elderly, will take five or more medications. With more medication being prescribed comes the possibility of more medication errors, such as dosage amount and unforeseen negative reactions. According to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies, no less than 1.5 million Americans are affected by medication errors on both a physical and financial level each year.
